When You Light A Candle, You Also Cast A Shadow

Bettina & Gary are very proud & delighted to announce we are taking our One Dance UK Award nominated dance theatre piece When You Light A Candle, You Also Cast A Shadow - on a tour of venues in the North West of the UK in 2023. We've already performed two of the five tour dates, at Chester Cathedral in March and the Whitworth, Manchester in June, to capacity audiences at both venues.

This is our first regional tour, thanks to generous funding from
ARTS COUNCIL ENGLAND, DANCE CONSORTIA NORTH WEST and other sources.
​
When You Light A Candle, You Also Cast A Shadow is a celebration of nature and our climate, it is also a warning about the precarious state of our beautiful planet and habitat.
The piece is performed by our trio of dancers - Lauren Tucker, Paige Lyon, & Daisy Belle Howell, with Jess Bennett joining us on our Arts Centre EHU date - with music performed live by the specially assembled Candle String Quintet who are drawn from the best orchestras in the North West (including The Hallé, BBC Symphony Orchestra & Manchester Camerata) with the help of 'fixer' & cellist Lucy Arch.

The piece crucially also features a specially commissioned poetry cycle by the Costa Award winning writer (and our very good friend and fairly frequent collaborator!) Mary Tal​bot.
